IASWG 2024 International Symposium, "Breaking Barriers: Groupwork and Social Justice," in Madrid, Spain, June 11-14
I have created a 39-second animated slide presentation to promote the IASWG 2024 International Symposium, “Breaking Barriers: Groupwork and Social Justice,” which will be held in Madrid, Spain. Through visual storytelling, I am trying to convey the idea of breaking barriers in different aspects such as freedom of expression, authentic communication, visual culture, and identity. I am also exploring how social work can help dismantle oppressive structures by positive disruption, embracing the power of representation and celebrating the acceptance of all aspects of humanness, not just what is most accessible and palatable. Social work with groups is focused on empowerment, cultural humility, social justice, and anti-racism, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to highlight the work that social workers do through visual storytelling. I believe that many people are not aware of the crucial role that social workers play in our society, and I hope that my presentation will help shed some light on this important social justice work. It’s time for Groupwork!
